Why Hike Una Vida

Una Vida is a Chacoan “Great House,” a large pre-planned multi-storied public building with distinctive masonry, formal earthen architecture and a great kiva. It exists today in a near-natural state of preservation, free from major vandalism and with only minor excavations and preservation repairs.

A one-mile round trip trail, which includes a visit to nearby petroglyphs, begins at the northeast corner of the Visitor Center parking lot. The trail to the ruins is easy. Beyond the ruins a steep, rocky path climbs to the petroglyph panel along the cliff face.

There is little or no shade along this route. Take plenty of water.
