This nice hike visits two scenic lakes and then climbs to a pass on the Pacific Crest with great views of the lakes basin. An overlook to the south of the pass provides panoramic views of Duck Lake and the Silver Divide.

Why Hike Duck Pass

This hike visits two nice lakes and then climbs a 10,800-ft. pass on the Pacific Crest. The climb to the pass is quite scenic, with views of the lakes basin and rugged peaks lining the valley. Just beyond the pass is an overlook, with panoramic views of Duck Lake cradled in a cirque of 11,000-ft peaks and ridges. To the southwest, Silver Peak and the Silver Divide fill the skyline.

The hike is part of the longer Mammoth Crest trail, which provides expansive views of the Minarets and Silver Divide. The trail is also used as part of extended backpacking trips. Beyond Duck Pass the trail drops down to the John Muir Trail.
