ALERT -- The Department of Interior is now accepting comments to gauge public support for the National Monuments under review as a result of President Trump’s recent executive order. Bear Ears and the Grand Staircase-Escalante are two of the monuments that are threatened by this action. There are many more. The period for collecting these comments is just 15 days. I encourage everyone who cares about these amazing places to send a comment, in their own word, as a show of support. Please tell your friends. Thank you.
This short, strenuous hike visits picturesque Windsor Lake, an alpine jewel cradled beneath the peaks and ridges along the Continental Divide in the Mount Massive Wilderness Area. (full description)
The short hike to pretty Windsor Lake is very steep but well worth the effort. The trail heads straight uphill, gaining almost 800-ft in the first 0.8 miles. The final 0.3 miles traverses pretty alpine meadows on a gentle gradient to the rocky shores of Windsor Lake, nestled in a scenic granite basin along the eastern flank of the Continental Divide. The lake is a popular destination for fishermen and hikers looking for a nice half day hike in the Leadville area.
